What to Do if You Think Your Child Has an Eating Disorder

The thing about eating disorders is that they could have extremely scary tolls on your child. When you want to protect your young one, you need to have proper conversations about their eating habits. 

Eating disorders are dire situations. They entail behaviors of just doing nothing but nonstop eating. These could impact your health, emotions, and several parts of you negatively. Some of the most pervasive disorders include binge eating disorder, bulimia nervosa, and anorexia nervosa. 

The exact things which cause eating disorders are not known like that. There are a variety of factors that could get involved. These factors include the following;

The biology of your child as an independent person could get an Eating disorder. People that are relatives with eating disorders could end up developing eating disorders. There could also be a link available genetically. 

  1. Emotional and psychological issues 

These emotional and psychological problems like getting depressed or suffering from anxiety disorders are highly linked to eating disorders.

Modern culture has emphasized thinness to be one of the causes of eating disorders. 

Stopping a child from doing something they love or enjoy. Going things like sports or ballet or skating could play a role here.

These symptoms and signs could vary. They all depend on the type of eating disorder. It would be best if you were alert for various eating beliefs or patterns, which could serve as signs of behaviors that are not healthy. Some red flags could indicate eating disorders. All of these includes the following:

  1. Your child losing a severe amount of weight or not growing as they should 
  2. Skipping meals and not wanting to eat 
  3. Always focused on the next meal 
  4. Always worried that they are gaining weight 
  5. Always looking at the mirror to count their flaws 
  6. Make use of enemas, diuretics, laxatives after consuming food, even when these aren’t needed. 
  7. Constantly forcing themselves to throw up or consistently exercising to prevent them from gaining weight after they binge eat. 
  8. You are constantly repeating several episodes of consuming large or high amounts of meals in a sitting. 
  9. They are constantly being guilty, disgusted, and feeling depressed about their eating habits. 

My thoughts on what you should do if your child has an Eating disorder

It would be best if you cared for them. Treat them with love. If anyone, including you, has ever made them feel bad about how they look or insults. You need to stop and find a way to apologize to them. Not every child has strong self-esteem. Some people need help and care all through their lives. While some are born fighters. They can kick so much ass no one can stress them in any way. So please. Help your child and shower them with love and care.
